Meike 6D Battery Grip Unboxing

Hi everyone,
Over on the Buzzpods Youtube channel I have just unboxed the Meike battery grip for the Canon EOS 6D. In the video I have explained the main differences between the official Canon grip which sells for over £150 compared with the Meike which sells for just £30 on Amazon. My initial impressions were that this grip is fantastic for the price. The Meike grip is solidly built with the exact same functionality as the official Canon one. As i mentioned in the video, the Meike grip has a slightly (almost un-noticeable) different finish to the Canon one.

The Canon grip seems to have a more brittle, matte finish as opposed to a smoother finish on the Meike however, this is not downfall, simply a difference. One other observation I made after the video is that the Meike grip has a slightly ‘clickier’ shutter release but the Canon grip definitely isn’t worth the extra £200 or so. The rubber grip on the Meike is surprisingly similar to that of the Canon 6D and was very comfortable to hold for long periods of time.

Also, for those with straps like the Black Rapid that connect to the camera’s tripod mount, you will be pleased to hear that the Mieke has a metal plate running the length of the base of the grip as well as a plastic support inside that will take the weight of the camera and lens when attached to one of these straps.

Irrespective of your choice of grip, Canon or third party, I would highly recommend one. With the two batteries inserted giving you the convenience of a whole day shooting without needing to change battery, it also balances out the camera well when you have a heavy L lens attached to the body.

The Mieke grip for the Canon 6D is available from Amazon:
