Gmail Hit 1 Billion Downloads On Android!
Google has annouced that Gmail for Android has passed 1 billion downloads and is the first app to do so on Android. This doesn’t mean that there are 1 billion people using it but 1 billion people have installed it, so someone could have downloaded it and then deleted it and that would still count as an install. Also, note that the one billion figure includes inactive and duplicate accounts, and it’s also worth noting that a Gmail app comes preloaded on most Android devices.
Gmail for Android has reached the one billion mark just days after a leaked screenshot surfaced of a completely redesigned Gmail webpage layout, which looks more like the firm’s iOS and Android apps. If the image is accurate, it seems that Google will re-do its email service with a new layout that replaces the sidebar with a slide-out panel. It will also see a repositioned ‘compose button’ and a new feature called ‘Snooze’, which reportedly will send emails to the top of a users inbox so they can return and read them later. The ability to ‘star’ emails will also be replaced with pins when Google rolls out the update, allowing users to highlight important mails, and Gmail will also include a new Reminders feature.

Do you think it is right that they show the number of installs and not the number of active accounts?
